THE NEWEST MILT KOVAK, DARK WATERS

Milt and his family – wife Jean MacDonnell and son Johnny Mac, with the inclusion of Johnny Mac's friend Early – leave Oklahoma to drive to Galveston to board a ship for Puerto Rico – a trip Milt won and wishes he never told his wife about. They eat lots of good food, meet lots of good and not so good people, only to have it all spoiled when Milt finds a teenager's body stuffed in a life raft. It's then that he finds out that this boy had been harrassing not only his son and his son's friend, but most of the pre-teen set on board. Add to that the death of a new “friend” right at their dinner table, and Milt has a mess on his hands, and nobody's happy being stuck on a cruise ship with one – or possibly two – killers.

THE NEWEST E.J. PUGH, GONE IN A FLASH

Taking their son to college in Austin, Texas, is a bit of an emotional moment for both E.J. and Willis. Their plan for a romantic evening at the beautiful old Driskell Hotel in downtown Austin is a bust, because the angst of the moment isn't all that romantic. The next morning as they find Willis's overly large pickup truck in the parking garage of the Driskell, they don't notice the man watching them as he's hunkered down between two vehicles across the lane from them. It's not until time for bed that night that they notice one of the bags Willis brought in from the car isn't theirs. Since there is no name or address on it, they split up the bounty, with their new foster daughter Alicia laying dips on the valise itself. Little did they, or Alicia, know that this was just the beginning of a nightmare for one and all.
